David Arnold has two concerts of his music coming up in Dublin – hooray
The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin will host David Arnold and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra for two different concerts on one weekend. The first concert is an evening of David’s music, the second is a screening of Independence Day with the music performed live-to-picture – details below.
Given how utterly brilliant his concerts have been, and the previous Dublin one (which sold out) was particularly lovely, I strongly recommend them.
Fri May 19th RTÉ Concert Orchestra Signature Series: David Arnold
The first concert, on Friday 19th May 2017, will cover the breadth of David’s music across his career including scores for films and television shows (“Casino Royale, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, Die Another Day and Quantum of Solace as well as Independence Day, Stargate, Godzilla, Sherlock” (co-written with Michael Price)) as well as his work as Musical Director for the Closing Ceremonies of the Olympics and Paralympics in London 2012. Sat May 20th RTÉ Concert Orchestra Presents Independence Day
The following night, Saturday 20th May 2017, will be Independence Day (‘ID4’) screened with the music performed live by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. It’s unbelievably thrilling to hear the music performed live in sync with the picture. You won’t miss anything in the film – the dialogue and sound effects are still there, it’s just the music that’s silenced in the film version and replaced with a live orchestra. ID4Live had its premiere last year at the Royal Albert Hall and is a wonderful addition to the increasing numbers of films that people can experience again with a live orchestra.

Here’s the Albert Hall audience reacting to the bit just before the film gets started – I rather think they enjoyed it 🙂
